Bone Cement in Joint Replacement Surgery

Bone cement attaches a prosthesis to a prepared bone bed. Both the quality of cementing technique and that of the bone cement are crucial for the service life of the prosthesis. The first cold-curing bone cement was patented in Germany by the Heraeus Kulzer company in 1943 and finally approved as PALACOS® for use in  arthroplasty in 1959.
